The vision for EKOMALSI was born during a heartfelt conversation between siblings Abidemi “Abdul” Ipaye and Mutiah “Toks” Ipaye as they reflected on the life and legacy of their mother, Islamiat Adebisi Amoke Dosunmu. In the span of just a couple of hours, what began as a simple exchange of memories and ideas unfolded naturally and effortlessly. With each moment, the vision became clearer, as though it was revealing itself piece by piece.

In many ways, it felt as though their mother’s spirit was present in that conversation—guiding them toward a place that would continue the legacy she lived every day.

Their mother was known for her warmth, generosity, and deep belief in bringing people together. Whether through preparing meals, hosting gatherings, or celebrating life’s milestones, she created spaces where people felt welcomed, valued, and connected.

While the initial vision for EKOMALSI emerged from that conversation, the spirit of the project reflects the shared legacy of all four of her children—Dr. Kemmy Oyeneyin, Abidemi “Abdul” Ipaye, Mutiah “Toks” Ipaye, and Olaide “Laidebug” Ipaye—who together carry forward the values she lived by. What began as an idea has grown into a collective commitment by the siblings to honor their mother’s life and the traditions of hospitality, celebration, and community that defined her.

The name EKOMALSI carries her legacy in multiple ways. First, it is derived from Islamiat Amoke, written in reverse, honoring the matriarch whose life inspired the vision. The name also reflects a deeper meaning: EKO, one of the names by which Lagos is known, and MALSI, representing retreat. Together, the name evokes the idea of a Lagos retreat—a place of gathering, renewal, and cultural connection rooted in the vibrant spirit of the city she loved so deeply.

Throughout her life, she was proudly known as “Omo Eko,” a child of Lagos, making the meaning of the name feel especially fitting for a place inspired by her life and the culture that shaped her.

EKOMALSI is therefore more than a destination.

It is a place where people gather, where celebrations become memories, and where the timeless power of hospitality, community, and shared experience continues to live on.

At its heart, EKOMALSI exists to honor a simple belief:

That the most meaningful moments in life are the ones we share together.

The Founders

EKOMALSI was founded by Abidemi “Abdul” Ipaye, together with his sisters Mutiah “Toks” Ipaye, Dr. Kemmy Oyeneyin, and Olaide “Laidebug” Ipaye, who serve as Co-Founders of the vision. Together, the siblings share a commitment to honoring the legacy of their mother, Islamiat Adebisi Amoke Dosunmu, by creating a place where people can gather, celebrate meaningful moments, and experience the spirit of hospitality and connection she embodied throughout her life.

The Four Siblings Legacy

At the heart of EKOMALSI is the shared legacy of four siblingsAbidemi Ipaye, Mutiah Ipaye, Dr. Kemmy Oyeneyin, and Olaide “Laidebug” Ipaye—who were raised by a mother whose life centered on bringing people together.

Each of them carries forward a different expression of the values their mother lived every day: the spirit of gathering, the warmth of hospitality, the joy of celebration, and the importance of community. While EKOMALSI began as a vision sparked in conversation, it has grown into something larger—a shared family commitment to honoring the life and legacy of Islamiat Adebisi Amoke Dosunmu.

Together, the Ipaye siblings continue the tradition their mother cherished most: creating spaces where people feel welcomed, connected, and inspired to celebrate life’s meaningful moments.

A Legacy That Lives On

EKOMALSI was inspired by the life of Islamiat Adebisi Amoke Dosunmu, whose generosity, hospitality, and love for bringing people together continues to shape the spirit of this place. What began as a conversation between siblings has grown into a shared vision rooted in family, culture, and connection.

Today, EKOMALSI stands as a tribute to the values she lived every day—welcoming others, celebrating life’s moments, and creating spaces where people feel a true sense of belonging.

A place to gather.
A place to celebrate.
A place to return to what matters most.
